Pearl #7 - Scrapbooksteals.com

Sometimes I have trouble getting inspired so doing layout challenges are perfect for me. Sometimes a layout manages to get away from me and morph into something else like it did with Scrapbooksteals.com Pearl #7. I cropped all my pictures, but there was one more I wanted to use and the rest just came. I love this sketch and will probably use it again for a series of pictures I am waiting to print.

Paper Girls challenge #14 & ScrapFIT Workout #74

This layout was fun, fun, fun to do! I combined two challenges and this is what I came up with. The Paper Girls Challenge #14 was all about getting messy. They encouraged us to use sprays, paints, inks, glitter, whatever you need to make a mess. I just recently discovered ScrapFIT so this is my first time participating in their bimonthly "workouts" as they call them. This one was workout #74 and it was a layout challenge. It fit perfectly with the get messy challenge.

For my messiness, I used acrylic paints, sparkle glaze, and spray mists. The Thickers and chipboard bracket I sprayed with Mr. Huey's. The black and white chevrons I painted with sparkle glaze and added glitter. The frame in the upper left hand corner I painted with a blend of acrylic paint and sparkle glaze. I splashed some spray mist dots onto the paper. Also, behind the two photos I used the acrylic paint from the chipboard and painted/stamped my chevron mask. For the layout portion of the ScrapFIT challenge, I used the two B&W chevrons as the "shapes" from the template and I used some washi tape from my stash.

Products used in this layout:
  • Mr. Huey's Passport and Pinstripe sprays; chevron mask

Authentique August Color Challenge

The color palette for Authentique's August color challenge had me running to the store to finally get some of the Genuine collection. I have been wanting these papers for so long and I was glad to get the excuse! I also grabbed a few pieces from my Gathering collection to get the jade elements into the layout. While I really like how this layout turned out it is somewhat of an enigma to me. From close up I feel like there are a ton of different embellishments and it looks overworked. When I look at it from a distance I feel like it looks plain and needs more embellishing. It must just be how well these colors work together so I had to stop myself from going crazy and just walk away.

I loved working on this page b/c I used so many different techniques. I pulled out my acrylic paint, Mister Huey's spray mists, WRMK Sew Easy, my star punch, and did a lot of fussy cutting. Plus, the pictures of my boys are just too cute. I could look at those kids all day...wait, I already do and they just keep getting more adorable. Here is my take on the color palette for the August challenge.

Products used in this layout:

  • Authentique
    • Genuine "friendship", "true", and "natural" papers
    • Genuine details stickers
    • Celebrate "together" paper
    • Blissful headlines
    • Gathering petite type square alpha stickers
    • Gathering 2-sided elements
    • Gathering "harmony" paper
  • Martha Stewart deep sea craft paint
  • WRMK Sew Easy floss

My Mind's Eye August Challenge #2

This second August challenge from My Mind's Eye had me running to Simple Pleasures scrapbooking store. Using Christmas papers in a non traditional way. I didn't have any Christmas papers. I always think they look cute, but to buy a whole collection of them when I use them so rarely seems excessive, especially when I would rather spend that money on papers I can use year around. Maybe this year I will splurge though. I found some paper from the Lost & Found Christmas collection and then went home and started scrapping. I used photos of me and Dave from a wedding we attended a few months ago. We always forget to get our picture together so when I found more than one from the same event I was ecstatic.

This was my first time working with glitter paper and it is not all over my scrap area!

This was also my first time using a pin in my layout. Not too bad.

I accidentally cut through my husband's face with the curvy cutter. Scrapping at night is a bad idea!

Products used in this layout:
  • My Mind's Eye
    • So Sophie Savvy "never enough" frame and "in love" journaling card
    • Miss Caroline Dilly Dally "celebrate" title
    • Miss Caroline pins & buttons
    • Lost & Found Christmas boughs paper and tinsel paper
  • Ranger Stickles

Pearl #6 - Scrapbooksteals.com

Pearl #6 from Scrapbooksteals.com was another single photo layout and I had the perfect photo in mind. I was sitting on the couch with the boys and they were playing footsie with each other. I used pretty much all Fancy Pants Summer's End for this layout and the colors work so well with the black and white photo.

  • Fancy Pants Summer's End paper, alpha stickers, design embellishments, filter embellishments, trim card, and 6x6 paper pad.
  • Mister Huey's pinstripe
  • Basic Grey fabric brads

Monday Card Madness #97 - Scrapbooksteals.com

One of my favorite websites to both shop and get scrapping inspiration from is Scrapbooksteals.com. They have a week layout challenge and a weekly card challenge. I do enjoy layouts more than cards, but when a loved one has a special event coming up I will go the Monday Card Madness sketches for inspiration. I recently came across a tutorial for a paper flower that I wanted to try out. This morning I was practicing making one and it turned out pretty cool. Then I decided to check out the MCM for my parent's anniversary card. I was quite pleased when I realized I would be able to use my new flower with the sketch. Here is my take on MCM #97.

For this layout I used:
  • Fancy Pants It's the Little Things paper
  • WRMK Sew Easy floss
  • stash buttons, cardstock, and alpha stickers
  • Mr. Huey's pinstripe mist

Pearl #5 - Scrapbooksteals.com

Scrapbooksteals.com had two layouts to choose from for Pearl #5. They both were fantastic and used a lot of various papers and embellishments. I may do a layout based off of sketch 5b in the future, but for now I stuck with 5a. I used a picture of Fletcher and Dave at the Renaissance Festival last month. It was one of the first times Fletcher tolerated, even enjoyed, riding on Dave's shoulders. I love watching my boys and husband interact. Dave is just a great father and I am so thankful that my boys have him as their role model. Anyway, here are 2 of my favorite boys in another great layout based off a sketch by the incredibly talented Kristy Lee at Scrapbooksteal.com.
